Asia Argento, who is among Harvey Weinstein’s most vocal accusers, walked onstage to thunderous applause at the Cannes Closing Ceremony Saturday, and she delivered a bold speech against Harvey Weinstein.
Italian actress and director Asia Argento said, “ I have a few words to say. In 1997 I was raped by powerful Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein here at Cannes. I was 21 years old. The festival was his hunting ground.” Asia Argento further said, “Just talking to you about it, my whole body is shaking.”
According to 42 years old Asia Argento, Harvey Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her in a French hotel during the 1997 Cannes Film Festival when she was just 21 years old. Harvey Weinstein was there for the promotional activities of movie B. Monkey, a crime drama where she acted and it was distributed by Miramax, the company Weinstein co-founded with his brother, Bob
Asia Argento said one of Harvey Weinstein’s producers invited her to a party at a nearby hotel, but when she arrived to find there was no party – only Harvey Weinstein was seen waiting for her in a hotel room.
Asia Argento further said that she did not inform to anyone about her rape because she feared the producer Harvey Weinstein would destroy her career.
Asia Argento also spoke boldly at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.
