Asia Argento says: I was raped by Harvey Weinstein at CannesAsia Argento, who is among Harvey Weinstein’s most vocal accusers, walked onstage to thunderous applause at the Cannes Closing Ceremony Saturday, and she delivered a bold speech against  Harvey Weinstein.

 Italian actress and director Asia Argento said, “ I have a few words to say.  In 1997 I was raped by powerful Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein here at Cannes. I was 21 years old. The festival was his hunting ground.” Asia Argento  further said, “Just talking to you about it, my whole body is shaking.”

According to 42 years old Asia Argento, Harvey Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her in a French hotel during the 1997 Cannes Film Festival when she was just 21 years old. Harvey Weinstein was there for the promotional activities of movie B. Monkey, a crime drama  where she acted and it was distributed by Miramax, the company Weinstein co-founded with his brother, Bob

Asia Argento said one of  Harvey Weinstein’s producers invited her to a party at a nearby hotel, but when she arrived to find there was no party – only Harvey Weinstein was seen waiting for her in a hotel room.

 Asia Argento further said that she did not inform to anyone about her rape because she feared the producer Harvey Weinstein would destroy her career.

Asia Argento also spoke boldly at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.

According to those who attended the Cannes closing ceremony, were  “stunned” as Asia Argento spoke and directly accused the Cannes Film Festival of sheltering Harvey Weinstein.

Asia Argento also predicted that Weinstein “will never be welcomed here ever again.”

Asia Argento  shared a video on his social media sites and captioned it, “This is the speech I wrote and spoke out loud tonight at Cannes. For all the brave women who came forward denouncing their predators, and for all the brave women who will come forward in the future. We got the power #metoo.”

Asia Argento was one of the actresses interviewed by Ronan Farrow for his New Yorker piece, one of the articles related to the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Organisers of Cannes festival, set up a telephone hotline for victims of harassment, and several discussion groups addressed the issues of sexual abuse and the under-representation of women in the film business.
