Banita Sandhu made her Bollywood debut with Varun Tej starrer movie October, which was helmed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar and written by Juhi Chaturvedi under their Rising Sun Films banner. Banita Sandhu starrer October was released on 13th April 2018. Recently during the media interaction, Banita Sandhu opened up about casting couch.
Banita Sandhu calls herself lucky and says, “I was 18 when I came to India for the first time to do ads and I walked away with a film role from Shoojit Sircar. I count my blessings every day for that.” Banita Sandhu further said, “ I never compare myself to anyone else. I believe I was very fortunate in my journey that everything almost fell into place.”
Banita Sandhu added, “I was never worried about casting couch and being caught in any such type of trap. My project was started in London with my agent, that is the main reason, I was protected. I am lucky that I got the opportunity to work with right casting directors in the UK.” Banita Sandhu also opened up about her ads, she said, “When I got my first ad for India, I had to fly to Malaysia but my mother was worried about casting couch issue so she forced my father to come with me. But when my mother realized that I am working with right people, she became very happy.”
Banita Sandhu further said, “Casting couch does not only exist in entertainment industry but in all industries. People should come forward and open up about Casting couch and sexual harassment. The people who abuse their positions of power should be reprimanded. “
Banita Sandhu also revealed that she has grown up watching movies of Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. But when Banita Sandhu was asked whom she wants to work with, in her next film, she gave a very surprising answer. Banita Sandu revealed that she wants to work next with Aamir Khan, Irrfan Khan and Alia Bhatt.
In Tollywood, the controversial actress Sri Reddy’s casting couch controversy created a stir. Many junior artistes have also spoken out about their experiences of casting couch, and of facing sexual harassment by directors and producers.
