Savitri and Gemini Ganesan daughter Vijaya Chamundeswari is supporting ‘Mahanati’ team whereas Gemini Ganesan and Alamelu’s daughter Dr. Kamala Selvaraj is not happy with the film makers.
Dr. Kamala Selvaraj has alleged that her father Gemini Ganesan has been portrayed in poor light in Mahanati. She said it wasn’t her father who habituated alcohol to Savitri. She said that the iconic actress Savitri had multiple relationships but not her father like shown in the movie Mahanati.
Recently during the media interaction Vijaya Chamundeswari said that she had seen the movie Mahanati from her mother Savitri’s point of view. Her sister Kamala Selvaraj might have seen Savitri biopic- Mahanati from another point of view. It’s just a perception difference. ” Vijay Chamudeswari further said, Kamala Selvaraj who is Tamilian watched the dubbed version of Mahanati.
When Vijaya Chamundeswari was asked about Kamala Selvaraj allegation that her father Gemini Ganesan was not the person who forced Savitri to drink
Vijaya Chamundeswari said, “ Yes, I agree. Our father Gemini Ganesan didn’t influence Savitri to become an alcoholic.” She further added, “The scene in Mahanati showcases that my mother Savitri had a drink with Gemini Ganesan, but it doesn’t mean she drank first time with him only.”
Vijaya Chamundeswari also praised her Peddamma Alamelu and said, “She is my great mentor and supporter.”
According to Vijaya Chamundeswari, what has been shown on screen in Mahanati, is a one-sided version that glorifies Savitri and bluntly ignores many other aspects of her life. The makers of Mahanati were in the contact of only Vijaya Chamundeswari.
Before the release of Mahanati, Vijaya Chamundeswari said, “My mother Savitri didn’t know how to deal with the challenges that came her way. Her innocence brought her a lot of problems which she never could tackle. No one even bothered to talk to her or guide her through that phase. My mother Savitri got into consumption of alcohol and that ruined her life. Savitri was bed ridden for 18 months and was in coma throughout. My father Gemini Ganesan was with her during her final days.”
Gemini Ganesan was one of the three leading men of Tamil cinema in the 1950s and 1960s along with MG Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganesan. Gemini Ganesan was particularly known for his romantic roles and was popularly dubbed ‘Kadhal Mannan’ or the ‘King of Romance’.
