Veteran Kollywood actor, screenplay writer and filmmaker Visu breathed his last at 4:15 pm in Chennai yesterday evening. He passed away due to cardiac arrest at a private hospital. Veteran Kollywood star was 74. The film maker was suffering from kidney related ailments for several years.
The film maker Visu is survived by his wife Sundhari and daughters Sangeetha, Lavanya and Kalpana. Visu had also acted in more than 60 films and helmed around 25 films.
After a successful stint in theatre, Visu made his debut as a screenplay writer with legendary Tamil filmmaker K Balachander’ Pattina Pravesam, which was released in 1977. He made his acting debut with Balachander and Rajinikanth’ iconic film, Thillu Mullu. Visu also penned the screenplay for Rajinikanth starrer yesteryear blockbuster, Netrikkan.
Visu wrote several popular movies including the blockbuster films Netrikann, Thillu Mullu, Nallavanukku Nallavan, and Mr Bharath. Visu’s evergreen hit, Samsaram Adhu Minsaram was the first Tamil film that win the National Award for Best popular film providing the entertainment. His films mostly dealt with social issues such as widow remarriage, dowry harassment and joint family-nuclear family debates. Visu had also played supporting roles in few movies like Arunachalam, Irattai Roja and Middle Class Madhavan.
