Famous Kuchipudi dancer, Shobha Naidu, died in the wee hours of Wednesday at a private hospital in Hyderabad where she was undergoing treatment for the past few days. Shobha Naidu was born in 1956 at Anakapalli in Andhra Pradesh State and she breathed her last today morning.
Shobha Naidu mastered the technique of Kuchipudi and started dancing lead roles in dance dramas when she was very young. Shobha is also an excellent solo dancer.
Shobha Naidu had received her training in Kuchipudi dance from Vempati Chinna Satyam, she has also choreographed several dance dramas and she has received the title of Nritya Choodamani from Krishna Gana Sabha, Madras. Some of her best roles are her portraits of Padmavathi, Sathyabhama and Chandalika. Shobha Naidu has choreographed eighty solo numbers, fifteen ballets, and trained over 1,500 students from the India and overseas.
Shobha Naidu had received Nritya Choodamani award in 1982, Padma Shri award in the year 2001, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Kuchipudi dance in the year 1991, Nritya Kala Siromani award in 1996 and Late Sri N T Rama Rao award in 1998.
