Veteran cinematographer Sivan died of cardiac arrest at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram. He took his last breath on Thursday i.e 24th June. The cinematographer was 89 and he was a three time National Award winner. The news of Sivan’ demise is confirmed by his son Sangeeth on Facebook.
Veteran Malayalam director and photographer Sivan was known as Kerala’s first professional press photographer. His sons Santhosh Sivan, Sangeeth Sivan and Sanjeev Sivan are renowned figures in the Indian film industry. Sivan also has a daughter, Sarita Rajiv.
Sivan’ funeral and last rites are expected to be performed today. His untimely death has left the Malayalam film industry in shock.
The film maker and cinematographer Sivan was born to Gopalapillai and Bhavaniamma of Padeettathil house in Harippad. He was the second amongst their six children. He was one of the most celebrated cinematographers and directors in the Malayalam film industry. In 1959, Sivan founded the Sivan Studios at Thiruvananthapuram Statue junction. He is known for helming few movies such as Abhayam, Keshu, Yagam, Kochu Kochu Mohangal, Kilivathil and Oru Yatra.
Sivan is known for his work in few movies which are Keshu, Oru Yathra, Abhayam, Yagam, Kochu Kochu Mohangal and Kilivathil, among others.
