Mahanati– the biopic of legendary South Indian actress Savitri, directed by Nag Ashwin has hit the theaters on 9th May and receiving lot of applause from everywhere. We have already reported that Rajendra Prasad’s granddaughter is playing the role of child Savitri in Mahanati.
Playing a real life person is always challenging. Recently during the media interaction, Child Savitri opened up about her experience and how she got the chance to act in Savitri biopic Mahanati.
When Rajendra Prasad’s grand daughter was asked how she got the role in Savitri biopic, she said, “ Nag Ashwin (director of Mahanati) and Swapna (producer) used to come to my house to meet my grand father Rajendra Prasad. One time I frightened them with my dog but both loved me a lot. One day Nag Ashwin and Swapna aunty came to my house and asked to my grand father that they want to take me for their upcoming project Mahanati. My grand father said yes to them and I essayed the role of child Savitri in Mahanati.”
When Rajendra Prasad’s grand daughter aka Child Savitri was asked about her first experience before camera, she replied, “I am happy as I got the opportunity to learn about acting. I have no fear to act.” In Mahanati, however, Child Savitri has proved her mettle. The confidence the bubbly girl had in herself, is portrayed beautifully by her in Savitri biopic.
Much of the credit for Mahanati – Savitri biopic’s success and its emotional appeal must go to Keerthy Suresh, an unlikely choice for heavyweight role. Keerthy Suresh who played the titular role, has confessed that she was hesitant to take up the film. The betrayals, frustrations, and the generosity bordering on foolishness that the legendary actress Savitri was known for, come to us without turning melodramatic.
Savitri was not an ordinary actress- people still rave about her performance in movies like Mayabazar, Pasamalar etc.
Rajendra Prasad played the role of K.V. Chowdary, Savitri’s paternal uncle in Mahanati.
