The country India saw another grim record with 4,329 deaths linked to Coronavirus in the last 24 hours even as daily cases dropped to 2.63 lakh. This is the highest toll in one day since the beginning of the pandemic last year. The biggest contributor was Karnataka, which added 38,603 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu state with 33,075 cases. This is the 2nd consecutive day that India reported less than 3 lakh Coronavirus cases.
The total cases of Coronavirus in the country India have now mounted to 2,52,28,996, with 33,53,765 active cases, the data showed. A total of 18,44,53,149 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in India.

On the otherside, State Karnataka, which has recently emerged as the new Coronavirus hotspot, continues to remain the worst affected state at present with 6,03,639 active infections followed by Maharashtra state with 4,45,495 active cases.
As per the Union Health Ministry, India saw the massive jump in number of recoveries with 4,22,436 fresh discharges.
According to ICMR , 31,82,92,881 samples have been tested up to 17th May for the Coronavirus. 18,69,223 samples were tested on Monday.
